How Can You Participate in Orphan Sunday?

Orphan Sunday is a way that churches across the world can be part of helping to impact the lives of orphans!

There are 2 ways to partner with Food For Orphans on Orphan Sunday. They are simple, fun and easy for your church.

  1. Text-To-Give and Feed Orphans. Share a video, testimony or story about caring for Orphans. As a special moment you can ask the people in your church to pull out their phones. All the have to do is text ORPHANS to 33923. It is really that simple. Some churches choose to do things such as asking their members to simply give $1 each, which will feed 4 orphans. Challenge your church to give enough to feed 10,000, 20,000 or even 100,000 orphans on Orphan Sunday. It's customizable and the choice is up to you. All donations will come directly to Food For Orphans.

  2. Special Offering. Share a video, testimony or story about caring for Orphans. At the conclusion take a moment to collect a special offering designated to Food For Orphans. For every dollar given 4 orphans will be fed. It is always great to set goals, not in dollars but in orphans being fed. Challenge your church to give enough to feed 10,000, 20,000 or even 100,000 orphans on Orphan Sunday. You can contact us to learn more about how to direct that giving to Food For Orphans.

The key will be celebrating the win on Orphan Sunday. Your church has the chance to make a life long impact in the life of children around the world. Let's stand up and take responsibility for our calling to serve orphans!

Orphan Sunday will be Celebrated in 70 Countries on November 8, 2020

For people of faith and those who follow Jesus there is a real purpose behind Orphan Sunday!

The biblical call to “defend the cause of the fatherless” (Isaiah 1:17) is on hearts and minds of Christians in a way not seen in generations.   The national Orphan Sunday campaign led by the Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) has helped stoke this movement to a new intensity, including more than 3,000 local Orphan Sunday events nationwide.  The campaign aims for more than 4,000 events across America the second weekend of November, calling Christians to adoption, foster care and global orphan ministry.

More than 175 national and international organizations have joined forces in the Christian Alliance for Orphans to promote the campaign, including household names like Bethany, Buckner, Show Hope and Food For Orphans.

“Orphan Sunday calls the Church to make the Gospel visible,” said Jedd Medefind, President of the Christian Alliance for Orphans.  “When Christians open their hearts and homes in adoption, foster care and global orphan ministry, we mirror the God who did the same for us.”

The website cafo.org serves as a hub for the campaign, offering event ideas, downloadable materials and ways individuals can partner with orphan-serving ministries to hold local events.  The site also contains a map of the country that will highlight participating churches nationwide as they are added.

There are more than 400,000 children in the foster system in the U.S. today, with over 100,000 waiting to be adopted.  Globally, an estimated 17.8 million children have lost both parents.  The Orphan Sunday campaign invites Christians to be God’s answer to these needs. “We set the lonely in families because God set us in His.”
